C3 FANatics Open Discussion: Slow Season Start Again?

The "FANatics Open Discussion" is a place for Panther fans to direct the discussion. Just drop a comment below.

There has been a recurring theme in the Ron Rivera era. That has been slow starts to the season. Last season was no different. A heartbreaking opening day loss to Seattle followed by another late game defeat in Buffalo had many calling for the coaches head. A home blowout-shutout of the Giants made us feel like things were beginning to get on track, but a thorough beat down in Arizona at the hands of the Cardinals once again had fans clamoring for a new coach.

Then the magic happened and the Panthers went on a tear during the next 8 games; Carolina was unbeatable. Looking back at that 8 game run, there were only 2 playoff teams Carolina faced, so the slow start didn’t have a major impact. So that brings me to ask: With the schedule Carolina has this season, can the Panthers overcome another slow start?

  1. A slow start would quickly knock Rivera off that pedestal we put him on after that 8 game win streak. Fans forget that he somehow escaped the gallows and survived the bye week last year.

The run game will have to be effective and Philly Brown will need to run around run around on special teams.

  3. I'm anticipating a loss Week 1 but a rebound week 2. I really would love a fast start though.

  6. The Bucs will be better than people think they will be. Lovie Smith will see to it that they are at least more competitive. If they get good play from the QB position - which at this point is a fairly tall order - they'll be in the thick of things for at least part of the season. Remember, they went 4-4 the last 8 games under an Autocratic coach in 2013 and Lovie should pick up from there and have them improving. They won't be the pushovers they were last year.

  7. The first four games the Panthers play will be a good test for both the defense and offense. The Buccaneers, Lions, Steelers and Ravens all have talented rosters. Our defense will be able to match up with anything they to do. But will our offense show up? All of these teams have great d-lines and can stop the run. Our run game could struggle so we need Cam to show us what he can do! I see us going 3-1 to start the season.
